We're supposed to get a report today from Tampa Bay Lightning general manager Steve Yzerman on the status of injured right wing Adam Hall. It is not expected to be good. ... But let's start with Hall since we apparently will get some new information about him, though the player indicated today that he has some sort of muscle issue in an arm as a result of his Jan. 5 fight with Ottawa's Matt Carkner.
Hedman skated today for the first time since sustaining a concussion Dec. 27 against he Flyers. The defenseman skated with Shannon and Wyman. Hedman did not wear equipment and really didn't do anything physical other than pass the puck around. Hedman said he still is feeling the concussion symptoms.
Shannon (lower-body) skated for the second straight day.
Wyman (right pinkie) skated for the first time. Wyman said he basically has a gash on the finger. "We're waiting for the skin to come together," he said. In the meantime he said he is on antibiotics to fight any infection.
Ohlund said he is still rehabbing his balky knees and that it is going "slowly, obviously." Ohlund, who has not played a regular-season game, still isn't skating and has no timetable to do so. He said he still hopes to play this season. "Nobody has said I can't play again this season," he said. "I'm taking it one game at a time and not looking too far ahead."
a védelem is cifra
Trade could've had more to do with Connolly coming back and JT Wyman playing better than Jones. So now we have too many forwards and sending Jones back to Norfolk would expose him to waivers again, so might as well get something for him than risk losing him for nothing.
"We felt we needed to get bigger on the blue line and I think he gives us a little more depth and he's a real good skater,'' Yzerman said. "I would say that skating might be his best strength. "He can skate the puck up the ice, and I wouldn't describe him strictly as an offensive-minded defenseman or a defensive-minded defenseman. I just think his game is as a guy who can skate the puck up. He makes a good first pass so he has the ability to move it.''
"We both were trying to make a deal that made sense, and they are both similar type players as far as age and their careers, sort of knocking on the door of the NHL,'' Yzerman said. "So, they are sort of in the same asset class, so to speak, and they were looking for a forward and I was looking to acquire a defenseman that gives us some depth and still has the potential to be an NHL player. "It was a fit for both parties.''
The National Hockey League announced today that it will not move forward with implementation of the Realignment Plan and modified Playoff Format recently approved by the NHL Board of Governors for the 2012-13 NHL season because the NHLPA has refused to provide its consent.
"It is unfortunate that the NHLPA has unreasonably refused to approve a Plan that an overwhelming majority of our Clubs voted to support, and that has received such widespread support from our fans and other members of the hockey community, including Players," said NHL Deputy Commissioner Bill Daly. "We have now spent the better part of four weeks attempting to satisfy the NHLPA’s purported concerns with the Plan with no success. Because we have already been forced to delay, and as a result are already late in beginning the process of preparing next season’s schedule, we have no choice but to abandon our intention to implement the Realignment Plan and modified Playoff Format for next season."
"We believe the Union acted unreasonably in violation of the League’s rights. We intend to evaluate all of our available legal options and to pursue adequate remedies, as appropriate."
As a result of the League’s decision today, the NHL will maintain its current alignment and Playoff Format for the 2012-13 season.
